Revealed: Why banks no longer take Sonko cheques

The Nairobi County government has been on news both for wrong and good news.

But in 2018, Nairobi MCAs raised concerns that most cheques is being rejected by banks due to grammatical errors such as spellings mistakes.

Kileleshwa member Elias Okumu once told the city assembly that an alarming 69,700 cheques valued Sh357.5 million issued to city’s 85 wards were turned down.

Recently Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko admitted his publicity stunts have earned him a name and political space in the country.

The Nairobi leader said his public relations skills had made him rise from a humble beginning to a county boss.

Recently,Sonko dared to fire all lazy city hall staff who are tainting the reputation of his administration.

“Expect more sackings in the county because my administration cannot tolerate corruption, failure to perform duties or laziness. I am going to fire some more public officers and I have no apologies to make for it,” said Governor Sonko.

Last year ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula defended Governor Sonko of all the wrongful accusation.

He said Nairobi is a model in the war on corruption and those claiming otherwise are evil sent.

“You have done a lot. Continue serving Nairobians and don’t give room for corrupt individuals,”  he said.
