VIDEO: How EACC officers nabbed city hall officials with Ksh60,000 bribe money

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers on Thursday nabbed two city hall officials with Ksh60,000 bribe money.

It is alleged that the two county employees and two other accomplices were extorting bribes from traders in Spring Valley.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko posted shared the video of the EACC officers frisking the suspects and getting the loot they had pocketed.

“Just a few minutes ago the EACC arrested two county officers and two impostors while receiving a bribe of Ksh60,000 in Spring Valley, Westlands in order to offer free county services and issue fake Single Business Permit licenses to the public,” Sonko captioned the video.

Sonko also added that he is hoping that the ethics commission will arrest more county staff in connection with this unethical behavior claiming it involved a big chain of senior cashiers, accountants, and auditors.

This comes barely a week after the Nairobi governor personally invited the EACC and the DCI to investigate the corruption at city hall in a bid to weed out the vice.

“I wish to draw your attention to information received by my office on fraud, embezzlement of funds and conspiracy to defeat justice and request your kind and urgent assistance in investigating and take necessary action against the persons involved,” Sonko statedthrough a letter.

The Governor also explained that the officers in charge of the department had interfered with payment systems in a bid to steal from unsuspecting members of the public.
