R Kelly, who is facing felony sex abuse charges, has begged the press to take it easy on him. Kelly, 52, said in a video posted to his Instagram account; “Yo this your boy kells and I got an event to do tonight in springfield illinois, so I want the media to take it easy on me man.

This is how I got to get paid for right now. So I gotta go do this event, and it’s a party. So if you see me in the club, with a couple of drinks in my hand, and chilling, please, take it easy. Appreciate it y’all, thanks.

He had originally been scheduled to perform at Spring Break Jam on Saturday in Springfield, but in January state officials rejected the concert permit application due to safety concerns over protesters.

Illinois Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Denise Albert said at the time the permit had been rejected because of backlash over the Lifetime docuseries, Surviving R Kelly.

The series detailed allegations of sexual abuse by multiple women, allegations which Kelly denies. In February, Robert Sylvester Kelly was charged with ten counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He has pleaded not guilty and is free on a $1 million bond.

Last week, his attorney accused the state’s attorney of succumbing to pressure from attorney Michael Avenatti in bringing sex-abuse charges against the R&B singer, saying his involvement has irreparably tainted the case.

Steve Greenberg made the accusations in a court filing and in comments after a Monday pretrial hearing in Chicago, highlighting recent charges against Avenatti in New York that accuse him of trying to shake down Nike.

Greenberg told reporters outside court there has been a ‘a rush to prosecute because of pressure – all polluted- by Michael Avenatti’. He said prosecutors ‘got in bed with Avenatti and Avenatti is toxic,’ and even compared him to Green Acres con man Eustace Charleston Haney.

The accusation that the office of Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx cooperated too closely with Avenatti comes amid criticism of her office’s handling the Jussie Smollett case. In a surprise decision last week, Foxx’s office dropped charges against Smollett that accused him of staging a racist, anti-gay attack on himself.

Avenatti has said he played a central role in prompting Foxx to press for charges by providing her with video purporting to show Kelly having sex with a 14-year-old. Avenatti tweeted Monday that Greenberg was ‘trying to distract attention away from the clear guilt of his client by raising bogus arguments about me and Kim Foxx.’
