Babu Owino.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has questioned the criteria that the court used to fine Samburu governor a fine of sh 100 million.

The ruling by presiding judge Douglas Ogoti has been was criticized by Kenyans noting that it’s setting bad prejudice as the governor hasn’t been pronounced guilty.

Babu expressed fear such bail terms and conditions may soon become commonplace in Kenyan courts if the judges do not embrace sobriety during a hearing of cases.

“My primary concern is what such a ruling will mean for the ordinary Kenyan who may find themselves answering to charges of stealing a chicken, or loitering in town and are slapped with similar unreasonable terms,” he said in a post seen by TUKO.co.ke on Wednesday, April 3.

The bail, the highest ever slapped on a graft suspect by the Judiciary, has excited Kenyans on social media.

The tough conditions comes months after President Uhuru Kenyatta had decried the courts’ issuance of “ridiculous” bail terms to corruption suspects.

Kenyans took to social media to praise the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for a job well done while otherts weren’t happy.
