Reports indicate that car fires are majorly caused by fuel leaks or short circuit of the battery, the battery terminal or electric wires of the vehicle.

Clothes used during maintenance, that are stained with fuel, can also cause a fire if accidentally left under the bonnet.

Experts warn that due to electric items in a car, drivers should check if the battery terminal is properly fixed on the battery.

They add that high-speed limits can increase the risk of fire in case of pre-existing faults because the car components heat up faster.
