Arsenal overtake PSG in the race to sign United star

According to the Mirror, Arsenal are now in pole position to sign United’s midfielder Ander Herrera.

  The Spain international is out of contract at Old Trafford this summer and is said to be close to signing for Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain.

However, reports coming out this morning revealed Premier legaue clubs including Arsenal are set to rival the French side for his signature.

Herrera joined Manchester United in 2014 from Spanish side Athletic Bilbao and became one of fans favourite. The United authorities are said to working on a new deal but with no agreement yet, rival clubs are moving to take advantage of the situation.

Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring the midfielder’s situation ahead of making a move for Herrera in June, and have plans to offer the 29-year-old more money than United.

PSG see Herrera as the perfect partner for Marco Verratti in the middle of the park as he would allow the Italian more freedom to go forward.

But according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are also keeping tabs on Herrera. The Gunners are set to lose Aaron Ramsey on a free in the same month Herrera’s contract expires, after the Wales international agreed terms with Juventus.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of other midfielders in recent months though, including Franck Kessie, Adrien Rabiot and Nicolo Barella. Herrera addressed the recent speculation regarding his future in the press.

The Man United star said: “I do not concern myself with what will happen in four months, so I do not know if my time here is over. “It’s logical when you’ve got three months left on your contact and there is an international break. I knew something would come out.

“I take it as normal. I focus on playing football in the month-and-a-half that remains (of the season). The rest is left to my agent, both the possible renewal with United and any talks with another club for my departure.
