Mt Kenya to form a new party ready to dump Jubilee

Mount Kenya region has announced plan to form a new political outfit to represent their ideology ahead of 2022.

Former Starehe MP Maina Kamanda said this over the weekend during a church service in Kiambu.

Kamanda among other rebel MPs from region have been traversing every county in the region claiming that the Jubilee party has been hijacked by political brokers who are in mission to force electorates to vote the DP for presidency.

Kamanda has on many occasion accused Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa and his Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro of misleading the DP of assuaring him that the region will fully support him.

“Ruto should know that Uhuru has one vote and he shouldn’t be too sure that he will get support from us, his close allies lacks respect to our son and thus we are very bitter with him,”he said.

He said Jubilee’s name has been tainted and, therefore, they will look for a fresh party.

“You cannot tell which party we will support in 2022 because if our party is branded a party of thieves, we will move out,”he said.

The split in Jubilee has given a lifeline to the Democratic Party, Party of National Unity and Kanu in Mount Kenya.

The former strong parties, which at one point led the nation, are taking advantage of the divisions in the region to rebrand, build networks and win grassroots support.

Earlier Gatundu south MP Moses Kuria was quoted saying that Mt Kenya will support the candidates on Democratic party.

Though officials of the party had died that later came out saying anyone is welcomed to the party.

political analysts argue that there is a general perception that some powerful forces in Government have hatched a plot to derail Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid.

The DP has been left fighting numerous political wars, through his allies, from that against corruption, clamor for referendum and the unity deal between the erstwhile political rivals his backers feel are all designed to halt his ambition of succeeding Uhuru.

Uhuru’s decision to hand Interior CS Fred Matiang’i more powers by expanding his mandate has technically made the latter a super minister and is being interpreted in some quarters as an act aimed at crippling Ruto and cutting his influence in the running of the Jubilee administration.

Already more alignments are expected in preparations for 2022 as several candidates have declared their interests to succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kanu chairman Gideon Moi, too, has been visiting different regions as the independence party, which had a lengthy grip on the country’s politics, seeks to woo new partners ahead of the 2022 presidential elections.

Deputy President William Ruto has also been crisscrossing the country seeking to bolster his 2022 presidential bid.

Raila Odinga,Kalonzo Musyoka,Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula are also on the presidential trail.
