Jose Mourinho has blasted people who attack coaches who win with an ‘ugly’ brand of football, saying that winning means you have played the best football.
The former Chelsea boss was dismissed by Manchester United last December after a terrible start to the 2018/19 season, with the club in danger of missing out on Champions League football.
His Old Trafford reign was a disaster compared to his previous spells at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and FC Porto.
The Portuguese has been working as a pundit since leaving United, providing his honest opinions on football matters as he usually does.
He has said that managers who are planning for long-term success should focus more on winning trophies than their philosophies.
Mourinho said: ‘I won titles everywhere I have been and I cannot run away from my mentality. Some coaches like to sell the idea of a philosophy, but you have to sell the philosophy after you win.
‘If you win nothing, what is the point? If your team plays very well, your team wins, so I don’t like these contradictions we have in football nowadays.’
Mourinho recently said that he wants a return to football management in June. He was linked with a return to La Liga giants Real Madrid before Zinedine Zidane was re-appointed.
‘I would like to be back in the summer in June for a new club and a new pre-season,’ he told BeIn Sports. ‘I know exactly what I don’t want. I know what I want, in terms of not the specific club but the nature of the job, the dimension of the job.’
The former FC Porto coach says he does not miss his absence from management, but is not bored or idle.
‘I am working, preparing myself for the next one,’ he added.
He also failed to rule out a move to the French Ligue 1 as fans continue to wait for his next destination.
‘It is difficult to say. If I said no (I am not considering it), I would not be being honest with you. If I say yes, you are going to start to speculate on the clubs that might interest me’, he said when asked about a move to France.
