Why Manchester United Risks Losing De Gea

The new contract deal between Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea and the club’s management is reportedly still at a standstill, giving room for clubs interested in the keeper to aggressively make their advances.

The goalkeeper has experienced a mixed campaign by his standards in the Premier League this term, but he is still regarded as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world.

According to an English publication, United are prepared to make De Gea the best-paid goalkeeper in the world with a £350,000-a-week salary, which presents a significant rise on his current £200,000 weekly wages.

However, this does not appear sufficient enough to convince him into an extension and he is currently holding out for the £500,000-a-week package to put him on par with Alexis Sanchez as the Premier League’s highest earner.

De Gea’s existing contract with United was due to expire at the end of the season but the club have managed to renew the deal for an additional year by triggering the 12-month extension clause available.

Meanwhile, the current uncertainty on De Gea’s situation could prove advantageous for Real Madrid, whose manager Zidane Zinedine is keen on signing the Spaniard after being unimpressed with the showing of Thibaut Courtois.
