According to a former inmate at Kamiti Maximum Prison, convicts hide mobile phones in their butts to avoid being smoked out with the gadgets during an inspection, in a tactic called ‘kusuda’.

Speaking to Jeff and Hammo on Hot 96 Breakfast show, the ex-convict narrated how the inmates use polythene bags to wrap the phones, apply lubrication and then push them into their an*s.

“We call it kusuda. There is a way you wrap it with polythene then apply lube to make it enter (into the an*s),” he said.

According to him, there are experts in prison whose job is to make sure they hide the phones for other inmates.

This, he said, is done before inspection parades.

“They charge two hundred to hide your phone,” he said.

After inspections are through, the gadgets are then removed and handed over to owners as they part with the Sh200.

The trick makes it difficult for authorities to deal with the menace on inmates having phones which are used to con Kenyans.

Many complain of calls and fake M-Pesa text messages which are sent from prisons to innocent Kenyans.
