Why Wayne Rooney is Desperate For City To Win Title and not Liverpool

After all, the scouser is one of all the all-time pantomime villains for Reds, growing up a boyhood Toffee before transferring to our other most bitter rivals Manchester United and becoming their all-time record goalscorer.

Liverpool are two points clear in the race, but Pep Guardiola‘s City have a game in hand – which considering their current form – they’ll likely win!

As a result, we need City to slip up in at least one match before the end of the season to finish as champions.

“It’s a great reason to be out the country when those two are going head-to-head for the title,” Rooney told talkSPORT, cited by Sky Sports.

“I hope Man City get over the line before Liverpool. I couldn’t bear to see them win it, it would be a nightmare for any Evertonian.

“I remember in 2005 (Liverpool) won the Champions League and they’re still talking about it now so it would be another 10 or 15 years of that.”

If you think Liverpool can win their first title since 1990, check out the betting bonus codes listing. At the moment, City are favourites, but they have a nightmarish April fixture list with games against Spurs in the Premier League and Champions League to contend with.

We also have the benefit of an easier Champions League draw, with two games against FC Porto – and the potential advantage of being out of the FA Cup against Brighton.

Liverpool’s run-in…
Liverpool’s last seven games include four Anfield clashes and three on the road. Spurs, Chelsea, Huddersfield and Wolves must play us at home, while we have to travel to Southampton, Newcastle and Cardiff. As a seven game domestic stretch goes, that’s pretty decent. Spurs always struggle at Anfield, while Chelsea have been playing horribly for months.

City’s run-in…
Guardiola’s side have an extra game to contend with, of course. They face Fulham, Spurs, Crystal Palace, United and Burnley on the road – which is significantly harder than ours. Palace is never easy; Burnley may be fighting for survival… At home, we expect them to roll over Cardiff, Brighton and Leicester.
