Kenyans not once but countless times have witnessed lawmakers fighting in parliament.

Even after some of them being punished by their party they still can’t stop such uncouth and barbaric behavior.

Kiambu County Assembly Deputy Speaker Philip Mubea allegedly sparked a fist fight in the chambers after he attacked an MCA.

Ndenderu MCA Solomon Kinuthia revealed to a local publisher that the Deputy Speaker punched him and he retaliated.

The other MCAs then joined in and it degenerated into a full-blown brawl with some members getting their clothes torn.

Speaker Stephen Ndichu’s efforts to bring the House to order failed, prompting the intervention of sergeants at arms and police officers.

The bone of contention was the manner in which the Supplementary Budget was tabled in the Assembly.

Some MCAs accused the Assembly’s leadership of conspiring to irregularly fast track the process of passing the bill.

There were already indications of a tough debate as Women MCAs arrived donning red outfits, ready to pass the bill.

The previous day, there had been a heated debate after the Budget and Finance Committee was broken up.

Ndeiya MCA Gideon Gachara accused the speaker of splitting up the committee to intimidate members.

Limuru East MCA Peter Ngige, who was the Budget and Finance committee chairman, claimed that his team was split so that it is replaced by members who would not question the executive’s expenditure.

The newly constituted ad hoc committee introduced the Supplementary Bill before some of the members stood and started shouting at the speaker for allowing the document to be brought into the house without following the proper procedures.

The proceedings continued later in the day and the controversial Bill was passed.
