Uhuru rubbishes teachers boycott of new curriculum, says government will not be deterred

Speaking in Namibia at a meeting with diaspora on Thursday, President Uhuru Kenyatta affirmed that his government will not be deterred form implementing the new competency based school curriculum.

“Even though there are challenges in the implementation of the new curriculum, his administration will not be deterred from its full implementation,” the president said as reported by his press.

This is as the Kenya National Union of Teachers last week called for the suspension of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) saying that teachers have ill-prepared and lack training.

“The implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum was hurriedly done before the majority of the teachers were trained on its contents and teaching methods,” said KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion .

“Parents and other education stakeholders’ involvement and public participation in the curriculum reform process was below expectation and after the rollout of the CBC there was no public awareness campaigns on the same by KICD, TSC and MoE. This curriculum should be suspended,” he added.
