Tears as Mishi Mboko’s Brother is Laid to Rest in Likoni

The body of a Kenyan doctor who allegedly died under unclear circumstances in Cuba has arrived at the Moi International Airport, Mombasa.

The body of the late Dr Ali Juma was taken to the Coast Provincial General Hospital for another post-mortem examination.

Family members, relatives, friends, politicians including Likoni MP Mishi Mboko and senior officials of the Mombasa County government were Friday morning at the airport to receive the body.

On Thursday, the family said that they were yet to receive a report on the post-mortem which was done in Cuba.

The burial is took place in Shikadabu Likoni after Friday prayers.

On Monday this week, the Ministry of Health confirmed the death of the doctor who was one of the 50 Kenyan doctors in Cuba who were sponsored by the government to study family medicine under a MOU between Kenya and Cuba.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and provide assurance that plans are already in place to transport the body back to Kenya within the shortest time possible,” said MoH through a statement.

he Health Ministry also said that the Kenyan embassy in Havana is working closely with the Cuban authorities in handling this case.

According to the Ministry of Health, the circumstances resulting in the death of Dr. Hamisi in Cuba are not yet clear as investigations by the Cuban authorities is ongoing.

“As we wait for the full police report on the case, we urge and request fellow Kenyans and his fellow student colleagues in Cuba to be sensitive on the matter to the grieving family and refrain from discussing the case on social and regular media,” read part of the statement.

The Ministry further promised to oblige by the family’s request that once the investigation report is ready it would release it to the family first.
