Embu MCAs have accused Mbeere South MP Geoffrey King’ang’i of grabbing public land and allocating it to his cronies.
The MCAs have called on investigative agencies to institute a probe on the illegal allocation of the public land to individuals in Mbeere South. The leaders called on the Ethic and Anti- Corruption Commission and Directorate of Criminal Investigations to conduct inquiry on Makawani Vocational Training Centre land that has been allocated to individuals.
While adopting the report of committee on land, physical planning and urban development on the status of the piece of land, the MCAs said the 20-acre piece of land was intended for the Makawani Vocational Training Centre but King’ang’i allocated 10 acres to individuals he purported to be squatters.
While proposing an amendment to the report’s recommendation to include investigation and prosecution of the culprits, Harrison Mwaluko, the Mwea ward MCA said the illegal subdivision and allocation of public land to individuals amounted to impunity and those culpable must be brought to book.
Margaret Kariuki a nominated MCA observed that the action of a leader illegally allocating public land to his cronies is an abuse of public trust. Her colleague Edna Muisio said the condition of the institution is pathetic with a lot of littering and shanties behind girls’ dormitories noting it is dangerous for learners who have been left without playing ground.
Makima ward MCA Philip Nzangi observed that the vision bearer of the institution had in mind the local residents to equip them with technical skills for self-employment and that the grabbing of the land was killing the vision.
The committee’s report on the status of the land showed that the Makawani VTC land was a private land owned by two individuals and was bought by former MP Mutava Musyimi through Gachoka CDF for establishment of the vocational training institution.
However, the land was subdivided by the current MP claiming he was settling the landless and squatters from the region hence affecting the learning activities of the institution. The committee chaired by Nginda ward MCA John Gichovi had asked the county executive for land to ensure the individuals who had encroached on the land vacate the premises within30 days.
The MCAs have also called on the executive to seek orders from the court to stop issuance of the title deeds for the land within seven days of adoption of the report pending transfers registration, which they further recommended the land be properly transferred to the institution and a report of the same be tabled to the assembly within 60 days.
The assembly has also called on the county administration to ensure that there is a database for all public land in the
county and ensure there is controlled development.
Meanwhile, majority chief whip Judy Mbuya faces the sack after sensationally suggesting her male colleagues were uncircumcised. The nominated MCA has already been stripped off her seat by the chairperson of the welfare committee for what was termed use of abusive language towards her male counterparts.
A letter to speaker Josiah Thiriku further accused Mbuya of improper conduct after she clobbered one of her colleagues. The letter was signed by five members of the committee. Mbuya’s woes did not end there as colleagues further accused her of incompetence, particularly when handling MCA welfare concerns.
Her ability to pay attention during the drafting of a supplementary budget during a two-week meeting was also questioned.
“When the liaison committee was meeting at Roasters Hotel, you only appeared technically and showed less interest in the business that was going on there,” the letter said.
Committee members who signed the letter to facilitate the process of her ouster included MCAs Robert Ireri of Kagaari South, Murithi Kiura, Mbeti South, Duncan Mbui, Evurore, John Gicobi, Nginda and Rose Ruguru,nominated.
