Deputy President William Ruto is on the receiving end of stinging words from ODM politicians and a section of Kenyans after denying that no Kenyan has starved to death.
On Wednesday, while in Mombasa, the DP termed the death reports as fake news.
“There is a lot of fake news about what is happening. We have been told that 11 people have died but that is not true. No one has died as a result of the drought and we are working round the clock to ensure that no one dies of hunger,” Ruto said.
This is despite West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo confirming that two people from his county had actually starved to death.
An MCA in Baringo County said that he had names of 17 people who had died from starvation.
On Tuesday, ODM chairman John Mbadi called on William Ruto to apologize to Kenyans for lying.
And now Junet Mohammed has called Ruto a fake DP.
“We are appalled by DP Ruto’s statements. By saying deaths is fake news, and govt officials are confirming it, then you are a fake DP.” Junet said during a press conference.
On Wednesday, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino called for the arrest of Ruto, because he is as guilty as charged.
Some people believe that politicians are trying to settle scores using the Hunger situation.
