Uhuru celebrates in Namibia amid hunger strike in Turkana

President Uhuru Kenyatta is in Namibia at the Independence Stadium for celebrations to mark 29 years of their country’s independence. 

Namibia is quickly becoming a model of just governance among African nations.

In October, Namibia President Hege Geingob attended Mashujaa Day celebrations at Bukhungu stadium after signing trade cooperation agreements with Kenya. President Hege also invited Uhuru to the country.

“It is befitting for us to recognize the sacrifices Kenya made as a country by contributing outstanding soldiers to help in safeguarding our stability,” President Geingob said

In a tweet, State House confirmed Uhuru’s trip to Namibia which comes at the time Kenya is facing serious drought and hunger in 12 counties including West Pokot, Turkana, Baringo and nine other in Nothern Kenya.

“On behalf of the people of Namibia, we have decided to award General (Rtd) Daniel Opande with the second highest honor in Namibia and we invite him to come to Namibia to receive it on behalf of all Kenyans,” the Namibian Head of State added.

On behalf of the United States , Michael R. Pompeo ,Secretary of State congratulated Namibia for tremendous growth from independence .

“USA enjoys a strong partnership with Namibia as we seek to expand bilateral trade opportunities and achieve HIV/AIDS epidemic control. We recognize Namibia’s leadership in 2019 of the Southern African Development Community and look forward to your hosting of the Women, Peace, and Security Focal Points Network Meeting,”He said.
