This is How United Boss Can Solve Ed Woodward’s Disastrous Mistakes

Manchester United had a turbulent start of the season before the coming of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But the coming of Solskjaer seemingly revitalized the club and the players who has produced a great result.

Manchester United are flying under Solskjaer – despite a recent dip – with the Red Devils still in with a shout of finishing in the top four and challenging for the Champions League.

Woodward will likely name Solskjaer as United’s permanent manager in the coming weeks, despite his desire to have Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino at Old Trafford.

United are expected to spend big this summer to mount a Premier League title charge next season, with Woodward behind all the big decisions.

Woodward has handed out contracts to the likes of Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, despite the trio struggling to cement a first-team spot at United.

And Castles says Woodward’s decisions are a problem for United, adding it will cause issues on the training ground.

“You still have the fundamental problem that Woodward keeps handing new contracts to players who are not of sufficient quality for Manchester United, so he blocks up the wage bill and blocks up space at the training ground,” Castles said on The Transfer Window podcast.

“Most managers will tell you they don’t want overly large squads because it becomes difficult to handle on the training pitch and around the training ground, guys that are not getting playing time etcetera, it just creates issues.

“And I think the fundamental thing here is that, as we’ve said on many occasions, one of the things that [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer has in his favour, in terms of getting the job, is he’s perceived as being a more passive figure in the transfer market.”

Reports this week claimed Solskjaer has told Woodward to axe three players this summer.

The United boss feels Alexis Sanchez, Antonio Valencia and Rojo must be sold.

Former Arsenal star Sanchez, who earns a staggering £500,000-a-week, has failed to impress at Old Trafford.

However, it’ll be hard for United to get another club to fork out and sign the Chile international this summer.

United were flying under Solskjaer, however, they have suffered a blip in recent weeks.

The Red Devils lost 2-0 at Arsenal in the Premier League – Solskjaer’s first league defeat.

United were then knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend after losing 2-1 at Wolves.

Following that, United has to consider making a fruitful decision this summer transfer to enable them achieve their top four finish and clinch the Champions League.

United will be back to action after the international break against Watford in the Premier League.
