Dandora: Gun regulation bodies urging youth with illegal firearms to surrender them

Regional center for small arms (RECSA) in partnership with the Kenya National focal point n small arms (KNFP) and Ghetto Radio on Wednesday toured Nairobi’s Dandora area in a bid to entice the youth to surrender illegal firearms.

The move comes as a grace period after the Amnesty period issued by the government ended on 10th March.

Speaking to ghetto radio Dandora area  Geoffrey Wachira  Ngari says that the response of the residents to this Amnesty has been positive adding that residents have been giving them tips on those possessing firearms .

“This illegal fire arms are the ones that are promoting violence, looting and other forms of crime. Anyone using fire arms in the name of earning a living should return them to the police station, chiefs office or even their religious leaders and they shall be assisted and introduced to programs that will build their lives.” he said

Chairman of E graders and also youth leader of Dandora Ayube Simba  in support of the initiative said the government should ensure that those youths that will return any illegal fire arms are not only granted amnesty but also assisted with work so as to serve as role models to encourage others to give up their fire arms.

Holders of illegal firearms have been given a chance to return them voluntarily and be granted pardon or face forceful disarmament.
