Coutinho’s likeliest destination revealed should he leave Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho’s Barcelona nightmare could come to an end this summer after just 18 months in La Liga.

The Brazilian sealed a dream move to the Nou Camp in January 2018 as he completed a £140m move from Liverpool.

Coutinho has made just 16 starts this term and has failed to convince boss Ernesto Valverde that he deserves a regular spot in the first team.

He was determined to stay put in January but there are increasing reports that he will move on at the end of the season, with Barca willing to accept around half of the fee they paid.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with Coutinho but a return to the Premier League is not thought to be an option.

Coutinho’s family struggled to adapt to living in England and that has put him off heading immediately back, also stopping speculation over rejoining Liverpool.

Instead, PSG has emerged as the most plausible destination for Coutinho should he quit Barcelona, reports Goal.

The Ligue 1 champions have the means to afford Coutinho’s wages, unlike other European giants including Bayern Munich or Juventus.

Leaving Barcelona for Real Madrid is also not an option for the former Inter Milan star, who earns around £500,000-a-week before tax.

Coutinho had scored in Barca’s victory over Lyon last week before being dropped back to the bench for the weekend win over Real Betis.

Valverde has often switched from Barca’s traditional 4-3-3 system to line up with two strikers and that has left Coutinho out of the side.

The La Liga champions will be back in action against local rivals Espanyol after the international break.
