Politician linked to Raila held over fake KSh 2B found in Barclays safe

A politician linked to NASA political party is alleged to be the owner of a safe deposit box found by detectives holding Fake currency amounting to slightly over 20 Million US Dollars Barclays bank Kenya~Queensway Branch.

Dr. Erick Adede-Owner of the Box had Contested for the Homa Bay Constituency parliamentary seat in 2017 but lost to Peter Kaluma.

Odede’s mission according to detectives included bringing potential investors to the bank to see his ‘lavishness’ and police suspect he was on a mission to defraud the business peoples.

Detectives who appeared to have credible information and been on the trail of the suspects arrived in several vehicles, alighted, stormed the banking hall and started searching for the fake bills bringing operations at the bank to a standstill.

Six people were arrested at about mid-day at the bank.

Odede who owns the safe deposit box, had been spotted a number of times displaying its content to strangers.

The six suspects are:-

Ms. Elizabeth Muthoni

Ms. Irene Wairimu Kimani

Mr. Boaz Ochich – Bank official

Mr. Charles Manzi-Bank official

According to a statement from the bank, the customer had concealed fake currency in his personal safe deposit box against bank rules and regulations which include restrictions of items that can be held in the safe deposit box,” said the bank.

“The contents of personal safe deposit boxes are not part of bank deposits and are only known to the client.”
