Here is Why Zidane Must Think Twice Before Signing Kylian Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain striker Mbappe has long been linked with a move to the Bernabeu since shooting to stardom for Monaco.

Though he is only in his third full season as a consistent starter, the forward is viewed as the most promising prospect in Europe.

Mbappe has scored an astonishing 52 goals in 79 games for PSG since an £166m move to PSG and is set to win his third straight Ligue 1 title.

Given the potential for Mbappe – who finished above Lionel Messi in the voting for the 2018 Ballon d’Or – to be a superstar for at least another decade, Real Madrid are understood to be hugely keen on the 20-year-old.

And Zidane’s return to Madrid earlier this month has sparked suggestions Los Blancos could look to make a stunning move for Mbappe in the near future.

It has been claimed Zidane showed Mbappe round Madrid’s facilities as a 14-year-old when he was the club’s sporting director, although the Frenchman chose to sign with Monaco instead.

And Zidane clearly remains a fan of the youngster, having recently declared when asked if he would like to coach his compatriot: “Like with all good players, I would love to.”

That followed a joke from Florentino Perez that Zidane’s presence in the Spanish capital means he might might be able to “do something” and persuade Mbappe to join the La Liga heavyweights.

But ex-Madrid boss Jose Mourinho thinks any transfer fee for Mbappe in the future is likely to usurp the world record £198m PSG paid for Neymar two years ago.

Mourinho told a French media: “A player like Mbappé – when we speak about the future, we do not need to say what Mbappe’s going to be like in five years’ time or in 10 years’ time. Just focus on now, it’s absolutely incredible.

“By his age at the market level, the age of Cristiano [Ronaldo] and Messi, they are over 30 years old, Neymar is 27.

“When you go to the market level, age is a factor and I think he is the most valuable player in the world at this moment.

“He’s the most expensive if we talk about a hypothetical transfer, he’s the most expensive player in football now in terms of his qualities. I don’t want to speak much, incredible. One word is enough. It means everything.”

ESPN FC, however, claim that PSG will not allow either Mbappe or Neymar – both of whom have been linked with Real – to leave the club this summer.

Despite another season of disappointment in the Champions League, it is claimed PSG are confident neither of the pair will look to force a move away from the Parc des Princes.

Real Madrid, however, can be expected to spend plenty having already secured the signature of Eder Militao from Porto for £43m.

The 21-year-old becomes the most expensive defender in Real Madrid history and Zidane is likely to get the cheque book out a few times as he seeks to improve a squad which has underperformed this season after Ronaldo’s move to Juventus.
