Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has called for the immediate arrest of Deputy President William Ruto over the Turkana famine that has affected more than 800,000 people.

‘It is so painful when you see people dying out of hunger and money is mispend on activities like dams which are stolen. We call upon the DCI to star by arresting the Deputy President of this country because he is as guilty as charged.’ An angry Babu said in Parliament on Wednesday.

The first time Parliamentarian wondered why people in London were donating money to help hunger stricken Kenyans when we have leaders back home.

In June 2014, Ruto commissioned the expansion of 22 Irrigation Schemes in 2014. The expansion which was to be done in a tune of more than sh 3 billion was supposed to cover more than 10,000 acres of land and was to produce a total of 150,000 bags of maize by 2015.

Kenyans have asked Ruto to explain what happened to this project that was launched with so much fanfare.

What they won’t tell you is that not only the Governors are the problem. Governor Nanok and DP Ruto should come out clean and give Kenyans thorough explanation about the irrigation projects in Turkana County.#GovernorsOfDrought pic.twitter.com/OdoWJY0pFK— Cyprian Nyakundi Escobar (@CisNyakundi) March 20, 2019

On Wednesday, Ruto denied reports that there are several Kenyans who have starved to death.

The DP said that action would be taken against a chief who had confirmed that several people had died from hunger.

In a separate meeting, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i said that the chief in question had been fired long ago and was not representing the government.

“The chief purporting to report on the drought situation was fired a long time ago. The County Commissioner in Baringo has confirmed that no deaths have been occasioned by current drought situation,”

On Tuesday, ODM chair John Mbadi asked the DP to apologize to Kenyans for saying that no one has died as a result of hunger.
