Governors calls for long lasting solution to drought

The Council of governors has called for National government to provide a long lasting solution to drought across the affected areas.

In a statement to newsroom,COG chairman Wycliffe Oparanya has said that the distribution of relief food isnt enough but the stakeholders in the drought management should improvise other new methods.

He called on the partnership between the National and County government
 to avert the situation that has left more than 1.1 million Kenyans facing starvation.

“We must as the two levels of government and key partners, engage in long-term investments that will build community resilience in the wake of climate change.” He said.

The governor has said that the governors among the affected Counties have already distributed Water,Food,animal feed while immunizing children.

“We wish to assure Kenyans that the county governments have put in place aggressive measures to ensure that Kenyans access food and water during this period,” he said.

“Counties have distributed to the affected households a total of 11,740 bags of maize, 1,500 bags of beans and 8,896 bags of rice.”

He said 290,518 bales of animal feed have been procured and distributed in the affected areas and 241,938 children immunized.

His sentiments comes a day after Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula adjourned a motion in senate calling for president Uhuru to declare drought a national disaster.

Wetangula motion was seconded by Senate majority leader Kipchumba Morkomen.
