Nanok lead County administration to review the progress of relief responses

Governor Josphat Nanok and County Commissioner Wambua Muthama today co-chaired a meeting with Sub-County, Ward Administrators, Deputy County Commissioners, Area County Commissioners in Lodwar held a meeting today to review the progress of relief responses by both governments and the drought situation on the ground.

The Governor said review of the first phase of relief food distribution will determine implementation of subsequent responses, which are expected to target regions where residents are in need of immediate relief as reported by the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA).

Additionally, he assured that the County Government had set plans and will allocate additional funds for relief responses in case expected rainy season of April fail extending the drought season. 

The Governor said National and County Governments were working together to coordinate relief responses to reach all severely affected by the drought. This follows yesterday’s Ministerial committee  meeting in Nairobi chaired by the Deputy President William Ruto where he announced that Ksh.2 billion had been released for the supply of food and water to regions in the 13 counties facing drought.

County Commissioner Wambua assured that both levels of government will work as a team in the relief responses. 

Other senior County Government officials included County Executive for Public Service and Disaster Management Charles Lokiyoto and Deputy County Secretary Robert Loyelei as well as a representative from NDMA.

The meeting also discussed security situation in the county among other development issues.
