Gareth Bale trains in Manchester, as first team coaches watch

Two members of Manchester United’s first-team coaching staff were in attendance to watch Gareth Bale train on Monday afternoon as Wales began their preparations for their upcoming international games.

Ryan Giggs returned to Carrington with the national side as he put the 31-man squad through their paces ahead of a friendly against Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday night.

Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna were both spotted on the touchline watching on as the Welsh national side took part in a session at United’s training complex, before catching up with Giggs on the side of a training pitch afterwards.

Both members of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching staff were joined by club officials to watch a section of the workout.

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale was among the players taking part on Monday, along with Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey and former Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen.

Bale has been identified as a United target in the past and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is believed to remain a big fan of the winger.

United offered a higher transfer fee than Real Madrid to sign the 29-year-old when he departed Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2013 but the player had his heart set on a move to the Spanish capital.

Speaking last week, Giggs defended Bale amid uncertainty surrounding his future at Real Madrid and backed the forward to be the talisman for Wales’ upcoming qualification campaign.

“I expect Gareth to turn up and do what he always does, give everyone a lift,” the United great said

“You have to take the rough with the smooth. He always turns up and is always brilliant around the camp.”

Wales begin the international break with a friendly match at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground on Wednesday 20 March.

The Football Association of Wales are currently constructing a new National Football Development Centre in Wrexham, but it is not due to be finished until May, which is why the squad trained at Carrington.

Wales begin their qualification campaign for Euro 2020 on Sunday when they host Slovakia at the Cardiff City Stadium.
