Director of Criminal Investigation George Kinoti has been hardly hit by heavy blows on his face.
Minutes after The Deputy President William Ruto claimed that some cases are too heavy for DCI Kinoti, another MP is up again in arms.
Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa has said the EACC to investigate graft-related cases, not the DCI.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations does not have the capacity to investigate corruption cases, he said.
The DCI has been under fire lately for what critics call selective investigations.
Ichung’wa explained that the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission has professionals from various fields, who can investigate independently and produce enough evidence in court.
The MP said he holds no malice toward DCI headed by George Kinoti but said it should be allowed to carry out police work.
The EACC has lawyers, professionals land surveyor’s, economists and was well funded by the government, unlike the DCI who are police officers who undergo investigation training” Ichung’wa said.
“They investigate cases which gives them a headache while collecting evidence and when they take suspects to court, the suspects are acquitted,” he claimed
Ichung’wa also alleged that some individuals have been pushing the DCI to investigate and arrest individuals without proper investigations.
“The DCI is being manipulated to arrive at conclusions, but the EACC cannot. This is the main reason we are asking the government to allow the EACC to carry on with economic crimes, graft and corruption cases” the MP said.
He was speaking at the bursary issuance ceremony in Kikuyu town, in Kiambu county.
He was accompanied by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata.
Other leaders present included area deputy county commissioner Paul Famba and subcounty police commander Musa Kongoli and Karai MCA Samuel Mugwanja.
Ichung’wa said the EACC is empowered by the Constitution to investigate economic crimes and corruption cases since it is an independent commission.
Nyoro asked those interfering with the DCI to stop, saying investigations in corruption-related cases must be handled with care.
Kang’ata said there was no division among the Jubilee legislators, asking the two differing groups to come together.
“We do not want wars and disagreements in Jubilee. If we do not come together, we might divide our party, something we do not want” he said.
However, Ichung’wa and Nyoro asked the Maina Kamanda led-group to leave them alone to defend Deputy President William Ruto.
Ichung’wa said the Ruto is being fought when for trying to unite Jubilee since Opposition leader Raila Odinga has been sidelining him since he shook hands with Uhuru a year ago.
“We as Jubilee know where we are going, but some who do not know where they are headed are tarnishing our names since we move with Ruto,” he said.
