Poor us!!After 50 plus years of independence, Kenyans still die of Hunger

It is a breath taking aspect at almost six decades after gaining self independence to hear of hunger and starvation related deaths in Kenya.

To make the matters worse, the government is denying any hunger related deaths in Turkana and Samburu Counties where the phenomenon is said to be thick.

About 1.1 million Kenyans mostly living in arid and semi-arid areas are on the brink of starvation and require intervention.

This is according to the short Rains Assessment report released last week, which alludes that food crisis is expected to last until end of August when some farmers will have harvested after utilizing the expected long rains.

The report indicates that according to the Integrated Food Security Phase (IPC) classification, food shortage hit the pastoral and marginal agriculture livelihoods due to poor performance in farming during the short rains between October and December last year.

Turkana County is already facing severe drought, with locals having raised alarm over the deaths of two people due to hunger, calling for national government to come to their aid.

The weather man as predicted drier seasons as rains is expected to below and drier weather conditions as a result of rain failure.

All these happen at a time when money meant for dam construction is feared to have been embezzled and maize rotting in the government stores.

However, the Deputy President, William Ruto together with the CS for water and irrigation has assured Kenyan that the vice is going to be catalyzed and no one is going to die from hunger.
