That’s the verdict of former Premier League midfielder Steve Sidwell, who doesn’t think the Champions League is the holy grail for Pep Guardiola and co in 2018/19.

City have a serious chance of winning a historic quadruple this term.

They have already lifted the Carabao Cup and are favourites to win all three other competitions, with an FA Cup semi-final against Brighton and a Champions League quarter-final against Tottenham in store – while being able to leapfrog Liverpool and go one point clear at the top of the league by winning their game-in-hand.

However, Sidwell still feels the club’s priority is winning the Premier League.

“I personally think it’s the league,” he told Sky Sports’ The Debate.

“I think retaining the league, especially this year with Liverpool giving it a right go and going toe-to-toe with them right until the end.

“I personally think they’re gonna do the four. Yeah, I’m gonna throw it out there. I really do.”

He continued: “Just because of the strength that they’ve got in depth. You look at their bench in some games and you look at the players that come on, other teams must be watering out the mouth wanting to wish they had them sort of players.

“They’ve got all the attributes, they’ve got the mentality, they’ve got the individuals, they’ve got the manager to do the clean sweep.”

Fellow pundit and former Premier League defender Danny Mills disagrees with Sidwell, nevertheless, insisting City players who haven’t won the Champions League will be desperate to do so.

“If I was a player, it would be Champions League,” he said
