Klopp explains why he preferred Liverpool beating Fulham 2-1 to winning 1-0

Jurgen Klopp has explained why he preferred Liverpool beating Fulham 2-1 to winning 1-0.

Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table with a hard-fought victory at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

They led through our early winner Sadio Mane before being pegged back by former Red Ryan Babel after an uncharacteristic mistakefrom Virgil van Dijk.

Klopp’s side seemed to be headed for a damaging draw in the final ten minutes before substitute James Milner converted a match-winning penalty in the closing stages.

The manager insisted that seeing Liverpool recover from a potential hammer blow to still win might be better in the long run than a simple 1-0 victory.

“Now I like the result more with the 2-1 than the 1-0, because of coming back from a situation like that,” he told Sky Sports.

“They are cool enough. On our day we are a flying team, that’s all there, but the consistency is rare.

“We played Burnley, Munich and Fulham, it’s like three different kinds of sports actually, and obviously it’s difficult.

“Let’s go, let’s go for it, let’s fight, all that stuff. Today we set again the basis for the finish, and it’s good. We only have to win and I smile all day.”
