Jailed foreign terrorist spark diplomatic row against Kenya

Two Iranians being held arrested seven years ago after being linked to a 15kg (33 pounds) stash of a lethal explosive known as Cyclotrimethylene trinitramine, RDX, at a golf course on Mama Ngina Drive in Mombasa County have sparked a diplomatic row.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has officially complained to Kenya’s ambassador to Tehran after the Supreme Court overturned a decision to free the two Iranian nationals who were jailed over terror charges.

Previously, Iranian ambassador to Kenya, Dr Hadi Farajvand, had been linked to a failed attempt to secure the release of Ahmad Abolfathi and Seyyed Mansour Mousavi from police custody.

The diplomat admits meeting two suspects, who reportedly defrauded him of an unknown amount of money on the pretext that they could secure the release of the suspects — Ahmad Abolfathi Mohammed and Sayed Mansour Mousavi — but denies doing business with the two men.

After the supreme court jailed the two , Iranian Foreign Ministry’s director general for African affairs summoned the Kenyan ambassador, Rukia Ahmed Subow, on Saturday.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi was quoted Sunday saying that the Iranian official expressed the Islamic Republic’s “dissatisfaction” with the “unfair” ruling and noted that the Kenyan envoy was recalled for consultations.

He spokesman added that the Kenyan ambassador said she would inform Kenya’s government about the Islamic Republic’s protest and dissatisfaction, the Iranian spokesman said.
