Government releases 2 billion to drought relief

The government has come to the aid of drought-stricken areas in Kenya, releasing Sh 2 Billion.

According to Deputy President William Ruto, the “funds will ensure adequate distribution of food, life-saving aid to needy populations, water trucking and complement first-line interventions by county governments.”

The decision was arrived after the Deputy President held a meeting with key stake holders including Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Mwangi Kiunjuri and his Water counterpart Eugene Wamalwa.

The meeting was held at the Harambee Annex, Nairobi County.

This comes as there have been deaths recently reported in Turkana and Baringo counties as a result of drought in the country.
