Devolution government came with hopes of bringing services closer to the people, but some some services in various counties seem to be still far. Is it , or has it worked in your County? Is your governor delivering as per his/her manifesto? Well, Former Kajiado governor David Nkedianye has threatened to ruin his successor’s career if he fails to deliver.

Nkedianye said he is already hearing complaints from the public about Governor Joseph Lenku’s leadership despite the support Lenku enjoys from the ruling party.

He told more than 5,000 guests at a thanksgiving party for ODM politician Shadrack Saibulu alias Wenger in Loitokitok town on Saturday that he served all and built roads, schools, hospitals and water facilities with the support of the county assembly and the national government after his election in 2013.

Saibulu was celebrating his academic achievement. He recently graduated from Kenyatta University.

“I drove a bus carrying all those who voted and others who never for five years without a turnboy but delivered them safely. I was despised by the county assembly and the national government because I was an opposition governor,” Nkedianye said.

Nkedianye likened himself to a herder guarding 10 goats from 20 wild dogs.

He reminded Lenku, who was absent, that he has the support required to take the county to another level “but people have started saying nothing new is happening”.

“When I handed Lenku power in 2017, I had initiated very many projects and most of them had been completed. I made his leadership easy unlike the time when I came in to find no single road in place,” the former governor said.

He said the people of Kajiado are waiting to see Lenku’s work at the end of his first term before deciding whether to give him another chance in 2022.

Others at the occasion were former Olkejuado County Council chairman Tarayia ole Kores and Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko. The two are critical of Lenku’s leadership.

Kores said God “sees bad leaders and will punish them through the ballot. I lost the last election because my vote was stolen through manipulation of an electoral system.”

Tobiko, who spoke in Maasai, said, “Those who want that seat are many. We have Kores, MP Tobiko and many others who you will see coming up but we will sit down and agree on who will face their only opponent when the time comes. For now, support your governor until the end of his time so that you can evaluate his tenure.”

Lenku was expected a few metres away to inaugurate new market stalls  but did not show up as he was reportedly inspecting a health centre at Kimana.

What do you think should be done to governors who have failed to deliver?
