The embattled former Sports Cabinet Minister Rashid Achesa has now come out to reveal reasons behind his recent sacking from the post. Echesa maintained that he was removed from office in an unfair manner.
In a wide-ranging interview with the Sunday Nation, Mr Echesa claims he was sacked because of his support for Deputy President William Ruto.
The vocal minister however dismissed claims that he was sacked following allegations that he was linked to fraudsters facing charges in court for impersonation and printing fake currency.
The former CS insisted that his support for Ruto, who is considered the front runner in the race for power, costed him dearly. “I was sacked because of my unflinching support for Deputy President William Ruto,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Nation.
The controversial politician also opened up on his relationship with the President, ODM leader Raila Odinga and Cotu Secretary-General Francis Atwoli.
Echesa said that he will always be grateful to the President for picking him from 45 million Kenyans into the Cabinet.
”Our relationship was great until the handshake with Raila Odinga (on March 9, 2018), when the President’s mood suddenly changed.” he said.
”Sad as it is to lose the flag (Cabinet position), I am not and will never be bitter. As the Luhya say, I ate from the President’s palm and I can only be eternally grateful for the unique honour.
Before he was fired, Echesa dared Africa Union High Representative on Infrastructure Development Raila Amolo Odinga to engineer his dismissal. He reminded Raila that they are not age mates.
His allies have claimed Raila is to blame to his woes.
