A look into Babu Owino’s achievements and future projections in developing his constituency

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has highlighted the major achievements in the development sector as well as his vision to transform his constituency.

3 months into the year, Babu Owino says that he wants to focus on development and he is committed to ensuring that he deals with the challenges that are facing his people.

Here is a breakdown of his 2019 plan for his constituency

WATER

Babu Owino assured that piping is currently being done in the whole constituency and a water reservoir has been constructed at Garrison Baracks.

He also added that the water challenges will soon be history in the constituency and sinking of boreholes will be commenced soon in different primary schools.

HEALTH

In the past year, he partnered with KEMSA and other private healthcare providers to deliver free care to residents of Embakasi East.

Their medical camps treated upwards of 15,000 residents both in utawala ward and tassia slums and they look forward to more of the same this year.

ROADS

In 2018, Babu Owino worked closely with the Directors General of KURA and KERRA to completely revamp the road network in Embakasi East.

So far they have constructed 18 roads in the constituency.

In the coming days, the MP says that he has lined up further roadworks covering the following areas: -Benedicta to Kinka in utawala(ongoing)
-Gate B to Kwandege in Embakasi(ongoing)
-St. Michael’s Road in Mihango(ongoing)
-Stage 75 to Jacaranda (covering both Embakasi and Lower Savannah,ongoing)
-Fedha Stage to Nyayo Gate B in Embakasi
-Road leading to vumilia slums in upper savanna ward(Done)
-Road from Tassia stage through tassia Catholic to Kwa ndege(done)
-manyanja road(done)
-Road Passing through Harambee Sacco in 
upper savanna ward(done)
-Hurlinghum road in Chokaa mihang’o(done)
-New Donholm road(done)
-Feeder roads in utawala ward(done)
-Feeder roads in mihang’o ward(done)


EDUCATION

In the 2018 Academic Year, they sponsored 4,000 students in secondary school, college, vocational training and university through the NG-CDF Bursary Program.

This year, they are working to scale this number up to 6,000.
-A total of 10 students got presidential scholarships (2018)and this year a total of 15 students will get.

Further to this, they will provide the following schools with buses to facilitate learning activities: -Donholm Primary School
-Mihango Primary School
-Garrison Primary and Secondary School

INFRASTRUCTURE

Babu Owino’s intention is to bring education closer to the people by constructing The Handshake Secondary School in Upper Savannah.

The motto of this school shall be “Uniting Kenyans” and Babu Owino will be welcoming H. E Uhuru Kenyatta and H. E Raila Odinga to officially open it, he also revealed the plan to construct a primary school at Tassia and another one at utawala.

His administration will also renovate the following schools: -Donholm Primary School, Upper Savannah
-Maua Primary School, Mihango
-Embakasi Primary School, Embakasi Ward
-construction of classes at mihang’o primary
To improve the quality of the life for students, they have constructed a 20 door modern toilet in Edenvale Primary School in Lower Savannah.

SECURITY

Construction of four 30 meter high mast security lights is currently ongoing in various parts of the constituency.

These lights are designed to provide high illumation lighting to a 250 meter radius.

This will play a key role in improving security for residents of Embakasi East.

-Babu Owino confirmed that they have put up several security lights in different parts of the constituency(Tassia,utawala,mihang’o,Upper savanna,Soweto)
-They will also be constructing DCI offices in Embakasi Police Station to bring services closer to the wananchi.
-Renovation of different police stations will be done.

COHESION/SPORTS 
Last year, the constituency had the inaugural Babu Owino Super Cup bringing together 64 teams from the constituency.

This year, Babu Owino mentioned that they are scaling up to 128 teams over a one month period to build cohesion and unity among the various youth of the constituency.

They also issued 30 sports kits to 30 teams in Embakasi East constituency.

Acknowledging the role that the arts and other talents play in fostering cohesion, Babu Owino confirmed that they will have a second edition of the Mr and Miss Embakasi East Pageant providing young people with a platform to showcase their talent.

TITLE DEEDS
They have managed to secure title deeds for over 5000 tassia residents which will be issued soon.
-Nyayo residents will also be given title deeds
-Title deeds for mihang’o and Soweto
