Chelsea’s loss to Everton on Sunday meant that the London club will once again spend the International break languishing in sixth position on the Premier League table. For a club that won the Premier League title just two seasons ago with pretty much the seam set of players, it represents a very steep decline in performances an results. What has gone wrong for Chelsea in such a short period of time?

In Chelsea’s most dominant an successful period, they always had a reliable figure who represented everything the club stood for in John Terry. The former England and blues captain played with passion left it all on the pitch, and above else he was a World class defender who quickly snuffed out attacks before they could start. His departure has seen Chelsea struggle with defensive fragility that the likes of David Luiz and Gary Cahill cannot fix.
Chelsea will need to find someone in the mold of John Terry, a player who is passionate about the club and one who hates losing just as much as he did. Until they do that, their struggles are set to continue.
Changes,too many of them
Much of Chelsea’s early success was credited to their owner Roman Abramovic not tolerating anything less than a Championship winning campaign from his managers. The likes of Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benitez, Carlo Ancelotti and a few other top class managers were hired and fired immediately results started going against them.
Football has however evolved and requires managers a little more time to build teams in their own vision and the results follow soon. Pep Guardiola did not win a single trophy in his first season at Manchester city in his first season but was allowed time to build and conquered the league in stunning fashion a year later. Maybe it is time Chelsea allowed a manager to stick around the club for more that one and a half season.A
Failing transfer strategy
Chelsea’s success in the early part of Roman Abramovic’s reign coincided with the club buying ready made stars who would quickly slot into the team and deliver immediately. In past few years however, more clubs have adopted the seam strategy and are buying stars for more money than the Blues can offer thus eliminating the dominance the club enjoyed in the transfer market. Chelsea need a review of their transfer plans if they are to remain relevant in the English title race next season.That is however still in doubt as they have been banned from signing players in the next two windows!
