Stop Shifting Public Attention Dams Graft Cases , ODM to Murkomen After Raila’s Arrest Claims

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has responded after allies of Deputy President William Ruto called for the arrest of its party leader Raila Odinga.

Led by Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen, a section of Rift Valley leaders asked Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti to arrest Raila for taking oath as the ‘Peoples President’ on January 30, 2018.

Speaking when he hosted Ruto in his Elgeyo-Marakwet County on Saturday, Murkomen asked Kinoti to arrest and charge the former Prime Minister with treason for taking part in the ‘illegal’ exercise.

“If they are not going to arrest him then there is no need of raising an alarm against impunity and yet the opposition leader himself is a free man and has no authority to lecture people on impunity,” the Senator said.

But in a quick rejoinder, ODM spokesperson Philip Etale dismissed the remarks, saying Murkomen was trying to shift public attention from two controversial dams in his county where it is alleged Sh21 billion was lost.

“Even arresting Raila Odinga for being sworn in as the People’s President on 30th of January 2018 will not destruct the fight against corruption and in particular the questions about Kimwarer and Arror dams. We need how towels and tiles were procured on a dam project,” Etale tweeted on Saturday.

The DCI has already grilled three Cabinet Secretaries over the dams but Ruto and his allies insist Kinoti was being used as an excuse to stop the construction of the multi-billion projects.
