Mass memorial service to be held in Addis Ababa for the crash victims

A mass memorial service for the 149 victims who died is underway in Addis Ababa to take place Sunday, one week after the dreadful crash.

Muslim families have already held prayers for the dead and are anxious to have something to bury as soon as possible.

Interpol and Blake Emergency Services, hired by Ethiopian Airlines, will work with Ethiopian police and health officials to identify the bodies, Dagmawit Moges, Ethiopia’s Minister of Transport said on Saturday.

Ethiopian Airlines has offered the grieving families of 157 victims of last Sunday’s Boeing 737 Max plane crash sacks of earth to bury in place of their loved ones.

Absentee funeral prayers for the pilot of ill- fated Ethiopian plane was held in Mombasa. The prayers were held at the Masjid Baluchi Mombasa, immediately after the evening (Maghrib) prayers, attended by close family members and other Muslim faithful.

The crew of the fated Boeing 737 MAX 8 Ethiopian Airlines flight that crashed on Sunday morning were remembered on Monday at a memorial in Addis Ababa.
