Kipchumba Murkomen the Senate Majority Leader has called for the sacking of the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti. The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator accused Kinoti of being biased in the fight against corruption.
Murkomen claimed that the DCI boss had made a habit of leaking information to the media before summoning his suspects.
“We have to fight corruption objectively and not like that. I want to tell the DCI that we are not asking for a favour, neither are we asking him to be lenient. We are telling him to do things according to the law,” Murkomen said.
He further asked Kinoti not to be involved in ploys to bring down certain politicians.
“You cannot run a country like that. We are raising these issues because we want to have an independent institution that is able to fight corruption,” he added.
His comments come in the wake of investigations by DCI into controversial payments for the construction of the stalled Arror and Kimwarer Dams saga in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
He said these when adressing a gathering on Saturday.
