How daring Kenyans imported two vehicles, registered them as semi trailers to evade tax

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday confiscated two cars to two individuals who are said to have evaded tax. Through official twitter account, the DCI revealed that the two vehicles registered are owned by Cynthia Wanjiru Gitonga and John Mwangi.

According to detectives, the cars were declared semi trailers hence evaded duty through an organised scheme which claim they were manufactured at a company in Mombasa.

Recently, three vehicles which were confirmed stolen in Interpol’s motor vehicles data base, were intercepted by the detectives on transit to Uganda through Mombas seaport.

The three automobiles collectively valued at KSh 20 million included a Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Vogue and Land Rover Discovery all of which had been concealed in two containers from the UK.
