Arsenal board Slammed for transfer decision

Arsenal have been hammered by Burnley striker Peter Crouch for allowing Aaron Ramsey to walk away for nothing.

The midfielder will join Juventus at the end of the season on a free transfer after over a decade at the club.

Ramsey has been in sublime form for much of the season and put in another excellent performance in midweek.

The Gunners needed to overcome a 3-1 first-leg deficit to beat Rennes and progress to the Europa League quarter-finals.

And Wales international Ramsey provided a tap-in for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a clever turn and cross to send Arsenal on their way to a 3-0 win.

Earlier this season Arsenal had a deal ‘on the table’ for Ramsey to sign and extend his Emirates stay.

But the club decided to withdraw the offer with no warning, and Crouch is flabbergasted that the 28-year-old has not been afforded more respect.

“It’s another week that has shown the error of their ways,” Crouch wrote in the Daily Mail.

“I have written a couple of times this season about Aaron Ramsey and you will know my position.

“I found it madness they were not prepared to offer him another deal and I can’t believe they are losing him to Juventus for free.

“Ramsey is quality. He is the type of footballer that should cost someone £40m in a transfer fee alone.

“If Arsenal want to replace him like-for-like, that is the type of investment they will need to make, along with top-end wages.

“They will find it is no straightforward task.

“For Arsenal to make the same mistake so soon after losing Alexis Sanchez has left me scratching my head. It was avoidable.”

Ramsey is the highest-scoring central midfielder in Arsenal’s history with 62 goals in 361 appearances.

This season, the Cardiff youth product scored four times and provided eight assists in all competitions.

Wales take on Trinidad and Tobago and then Slovakia before Arsenal return to action against Newcastle on April 1.
