Govt declines to lift curfew in Olpusimoru
Residents of Olpusimoru area in Olenguruoni, Narok County where renewed clashes erupted on Sunday.

The government has declined to lift the 6pm to 6am curfew it placed on residents of Olpusimoru Ward following tribal clashes.

Narok County commissioner George Natembeya warned that his office will not risk any vacuum until corporals in police posts are strategically erected to arrest alarmists.

He further warned that hate mongers found culpable will face the full force of the law.

Natembeya spoke at Olpusimoru market centre where he led a National Cohesion And Integration Commission (NCIC) delegation from Nairobi on a progress check following the imposition

NCIC and Narok security team are on a two-day visit that kicked off in Olpusimoru in Narok North.

It will end on Saturday in Nkoben through an interactive meeting with residents to promote cohesion.

The curfew was declared last year following an escalation of tribal clashes.

The clashes left a trail of destruction and many injured victims, as rival community members walked around with crude weapons.

Reports indicate that the fight was triggered by a cattle rustling incident even as claims emerged that the renewed fighting is being fueled by politicians seeking to influence the Mau evictions.
