UEFA Champions League draw; This is why Ole Gunnar will play away first against Barcelona

The UEFA Champions League quarter draw is out and Manchester City will face their fellow English team, Tottenham but that is not the news, Spanish giants Barcelona will face Ole Gunnar’s Manchester United.

Manchester United have been ordered by UEFA to play the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona , despite being drawn to play away from home first.

United were drawn to play the Catalan giants in the Nou Camp before playing the return leg on home soil. But Manchester City have also been drawn at home in their last-eight clash against Tottenham .

Regulations prohibit United and City from both playing at home on either the same night or on consecutive nights, thus one of them must move.

Due to City finishing higher in the Premier League than their local rivals last season, it is United who will play their second leg away from home.

The match in the Nou Camp will mark a return to the stadium for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who scored arguably the most famous goal in Red Devils history on the same ground in 1999.

Solskjaer netted from close range in stoppage time of the Champions League final against Bayern Munich to complete a historic treble.

And City’s clash against Spurs means there will be at least one English representative in the last four.

Liverpool have, on paper, perhaps the best chance of progression after being paired against Porto. In the other quarter-final, Ajax’s reward for seeing off Real Madrid is a clash against Atletico conquerors Juventus .
