Sad! Family in Murangá left in sorrow after grandmother commits suicide

Residents of Kiuu village in Kiharu, Murang’a county, are mourning the death of a 76-year-old woman who committed suicide by jumping into a 20-feet pit latrine in her home. The family members of Damaris Wambui Macharia were left reeling in shock as they tried to come to terms with the incident.

The deceased had not shown any signs of stress that could have led to her committing suicide. On the fateful day, she called her granddaughter to her bedroom and gave her a mobile phone. She then proceeded to the toilet, removed the wood covering it and jumped in.

The deceased is said to have spent the night calling her granddaughter whom they share a room on several occasions to come to her bedside but she could not state the reasons for calling her. A few minutes after 6am, she went to her granddaughter’s bed and woke her up and handed a mobile phone to her with remarks that the phone will now be hers.
