Pep Guardiola reacts to Champions League draw as Manchester City face Tottenham

Pep Guardiola insists there is ‘a lot of respect’ between Manchester City and Tottenham after the Premier League clubs were drawn to face each other in the Champions League.

City thumped German side Schalke in the last-16 while Tottenham beat fellow Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.

Guardiola’s side lost to Liverpool in the quarter-finals of last season’s Champions League while Spurs exited at the last-16 stage at the hands of Juventus.

Reacting to the Champions League quarter-finals draw, Guardiola said: ‘We know each other quite well, there is a lot of respect there.

‘We will try to arrive in the best condition possible. It is a pleasure to be in the quarter-finals.

‘We will travel to London. It is what it is. When you have four Premier League teams in the same draw you have the chance to play one of them.

‘I know quite well the quality of this team [Tottenham]. Hopefully we arrive at this game fit and healthy.

‘Every team has their strong points and weak points. We are strong in some areas and weak in other ones. It is what it is.’

City’s Manchester rivals United were handed a difficult draw, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side set to play Barcelona over two legs.

Liverpool, who are challenging City for this year’s Premier League title, face Porto.

On his team’s upcoming matches against Porto, Jurgen Klopp said: ‘What can I say?

‘It’s Porto and we’ve played there already and we know how good we had to be last year.’
