A number of Chelsea players are set to miss the upcoming EURO 2020 qualifiers next week after Luis Enrique announced his squad for the upcoming games.
Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are part of the England squad for the EURO 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Montenegro, while the likes of Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and many more will be departing London to represent their respective national teams.
Cesar Azpilicueta is one Chelsea player who is always away from Cobham during an international break, but he will not be playing for Spain over the next 11 days.
The 2010 World Cup winners are due to play Norway and Malta in first qualifiers for next year’s UEFA European Championship and manager Luis Enrique has elected against calling the Chelsea defender up for their games.
The 29-year-old, who was part of the last Spain squad in November, has struggled this season and has been far from his best after moving from a three-man defence to right-back following the appointment of Maurizio Sarri.
He clearly hasn’t impressed Enrique over the past few months and is one of a number of big names that haven’t been included by the former Barcelona manager. Real Madrid midfielder Isco has been omitted after struggling for match action at the Santiago Bernabeu this season, with Atletico Madrid duo Koke and Saul also absent.
Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has been included in the squad for next week’s games, while Alvaro Morata, who is now on loan with Atleti, is also part of 23-man squad after managing to rediscover his form in front of goal over the past few weeks.
