What a neglected Man United player did to win over Ole Gunnar

Fred has started three of the last four games

Fred underwent a specific training programme to spark his resurgence at Manchester United.

The 26-year-old midfielder did not play for United for 53 days until he was recalled for the Premier League victory at Crystal Palace on February 27 and Fred has started three of the last four matches.

The MEN can reveal Fred and his advisors asked United for feedback after a struggling start to his Old Trafford career and the Brazil international underwent specific ‘evaluations’ as part of a tailored fitness regime to prepare him for caretaker coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s more intense demands.

Fred is one of the few United squad members not to succumb to injury this season but has recently incorporated injury-prevention exercises into his training routines and enhance his playing performance. A source close to Fred said the Brazilian ‘is going well and starting to improve in many aspects of his game’.

The MEN reported last month United coaches were optimistic £52million signing Fred would still come good, despite a disappointing first half of the campaign.

The club gave ‘very positive’ feedback on Fred’s training performances during his non-playing spell between January and February and felt Fred required more time to ‘properly adapt’ before he was given more minutes.
