For those who know the face of Pumwani Hospital, it was a dilapidated infrastructure, with uncollected garbage, and open waste pipes just to mention but a few.
However since the Sonko administration took over the affairs at city hall, Pumwani has not been the same old dog.Renovations that have so far cost Ksh.50 million have taken place. For the first time, the hospital is equipped with a morgue.
Revcently, the UK Government committed to fund the first human milk bank in East Africa, at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital.
British High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Hailey says they have set aside Sh65 million for funding the human milk bank, which upon completion will be launched in early April.
Speaking to Citizen TV, the hospital Administrator Geoffrey Mosiria said “For the last five years Pumwani used to be viewed by the public as a hospital that does not take care of its patients, but we have had changes of late,….. we have the painting works….we didn’t have a mortuary, a cold room, now we have that and it is fully function,” said Mosira.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko announced that Pumwani Maternity Hospital will now be known as Sonko Pumwani Women’s Hospital & College of Nursing & Midwifery.
In an announcement on his social media pages, the Governor indicated that the move follows a deal with two hospitals.
“I’m happy to announce a new partnership deal with Agha Khan University Hospital & Nairobi West Hospital to transform Pumwani Maternity Hospital. Open link for more details of the upcoming new Sonko Pumwani Women’s Hospital & College of Nursing & Midwifery,” Sonko said
Is Sonko right to name the Hospital after himself?
