According to the hospital’s chairman Dr Mishra Swarrup, the opening of the two units will go a long way towards reducing the cost many patients incur while travelling overseas to seek treatment for Kidney and Liver-related diseases.

“We are doing kidney transplant in our facility at between Sh850,000 to Sh1 million which is much cheaper compared to oversee prices,” said Mishra during the unveiling of the two units on Thursday.

“This marks the beginning of a far-fetched journey of reducing kidney and liver-related mortalities and morbidities in East Africa,” he added.

Currently, the National Hospital and Insurance Fund (NHIF) pays for up to Sh500,000 for a patient undergoing a kidney transplant in any health facility in the country.
