England Coach Explains Why Man City’s Fabian Must Be Included in England Squad

England manager Gareth Southgate has named his squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers and it’s good news for Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph.

The 29-year-old has been a key member of Southgate’s squad of late but has only started eleven games this season in the Premier League for the leaders.

His inclusion in the 25-man party to face Czech Republic and Montenegro later this month has raised some eyebrows amongst Southampton fans in particular considering the outstanding form of James Ward-Prowse, but Southgate insists Delph deserves his place.

Despite not being a regular for Pep Guardiola this season, Delph started for England during their Nations League win over Croatia last November and Southgate explains that his faith in Delph comes from his strong displays for his country.

“You can look at Delph not playing for City, but he was our best player against Croatia. It would be strange to make huge changes to a squad which has qualified for the Nations League finals,” Southgate told the media on Wednesday.
